Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice is Maine's largest nonprofit, Medicare-certified agency.  The Agency annually provides skilled home care, supportive care, and hospice care for nearly 8,000 residents throughout Maine.  Along with these services, we also provide training for individuals who would like to join our Volunteer team.  Volunteers bring comforting support and practical help to patients and their families.  We offer trainings for Hospice Volunteers, Visiting, Grocery, Office Volunteers and Hospice House Greeters; Program for Grieving Children and Teens Volunteers; Bereavement Volunteers and Grief Support Facilitators. Beginning Ashtanga Yoga

Beginning Ashtanga Yoga is for students interested in learning the standing sequences of the primary series.  Modified sun salutations will be explored.  In this class, breathing and proper alignment for a safe and effective yoga practice will be the focus.  Bring a water bottle, yoga mat, and wear comfortable clothing.  Avoid eating 1 hour before class.

Classes will be held at Chill Yoga, 178 Lisbon Street, next door to FISC and above Forage Market, near the corner of Ash and Lisbon Streets.  Studio entrance on the second floor.

Call early to enroll 333-6661.  Participants who currently hold a certified nurse's assistant certificate, are on the State Nursing Registry in good standing, and have one-year minimum full-time experience as a C.N.A. may apply.  Students will be taught the rules, regulations, medications, and techniques in becoming a medication technician.  Reading assessment test required.  Anyone wishing to apply for this program must call the Adult Ed. office at 333-6661.  Payment due prior to first class.  No refund once class starts.

Requirements/Prerequisites

C.N.A. (state certified and listed on State Registry), one year of C.N.A. (2,080 hours) experience, passing a CASAS reading test, leters of recommendation from nursing administrator and supervisor must be two registered nurses who supervise on letterhead.

Looking for a new career?  Interested in changing lives of those around you?  How about a part-time career or to get paid to work out?  This program is designed to teach you everything you need to know to enter the health and fitness field as a group fitness instructor and/or personal trainer.  Our trainers are highly recognized in this field, with more than 20 years experience, and will provide you hands-on training to pass the national tests through AFAA.  The program is all-inclusive and will include AED, First Aid and CPR certifications as well.  You may choose to complete both group fitness and personal training, or take one or the other.  Lectures are once a week for 10 or 20 weeks.  $1,500 or $3,000 for both.  All materials included in fee including National Certification Exams.

16-week certification course:  This course will teach you the practical real-world skills essential for success in the healthcare field.  This completely inclusive course consists of Medical Terminology, Medical Front Office Skills, EHR/EMR for the Medical Office Medical Billing Specialist and the Administrative Medical Assistant.  You will learn electronic medical records system which are used in many medical offices.  In addition, upon completion of all courses, you will sit for your CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant) Electronic Health Record exams through the National Healthcare Association.  $3,000 includes national certifications, books, and fees.

THIS CLASS IS IN HIGH DEMAND CALL EARLY 333-6661.

Classes fill 3 to 4 weeks prior to the listed start date.  Reading assessment test and interview required.  This is a program designed to prepare the student to become a certified nurse's assistant.  Nursing assistant skills are taught and evaluated in the classroom and through clinical "hands-on" experience.  Certification is given upon completion of the course after evaluations in theory, clinical performance, and passing state examination.  Anyone wishing to apply for this program must call the Adult Ed. office to schedule an interview.  Class size is limited and students are chosen for participation based on reading assessment and intereview required.  No refunds.

Admission Requirements:  passing a reading CASAS test, interview, age 18 or older, high school graduate or equivalent (transcript), leater from physician stating physical ability to perform C.N.A. work, and immunizatoin (shots & TB test) records.
